Bio
Sanna Svedestedt is an art jeweller and leather craft artist based in Jämtland, Sweden. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Jewellery Art from HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design (2009). Working primarily with naturally tanned leather, she experiments with and reinterprets historical leather techniques through a contemporary jewellery practice. In 2025, she founded Galleri Smedjan in Östersund, a platform for contemporary jewellery and craft in northern Sweden.Statement
My main material is naturally tanned leather and I experiment with wet molding, Cuir Bouilli and embossing to sculpt and harden soft skin. To me, leather is a powerful material charged with associations to life, death, and our transience. To wear the skin of another being on one’s body is, at its core, an absurd act. I explore the tension between this absurdity and a playful visual language to reflect on fragility, loss, and transformation.-
