The works presented in this exhibition originate primarily from Kamata’s passion for dismantling old photographic camera objectives into their individual parts in order to utilize the lenses for creating new jewelry – camera lenses that have perhaps already seen the whole world and countless pictures. In the utilization of materials and technical execution, the chains and pendants by this artist have advanced far ahead of “normal” jewelry. They are more like small treasures that are enlivened by technical precision and light reflections. Through the use of camera lenses, Kamata has created jewelry that reflects the surroundings in a very special manner, thus becoming a part of their environment. The curved surfaces of the lenses are opalescent like a subtle film of oil on dark water. In unique color facets, however, they are neither harsh nor bright.
