KORU Workshops 2012
Three KORU4-workshops are lead by: Ruudt Peters & Evert Nijland, Mia Maljojoki & Pau Faus, Nelli Tanner & Tarja Tuupanen.
Afflatus
Ruudt Peters & Evert Nijland
30.10.-1.11.2012, Price: 500 euros
In Dutch language a word exist called 'bezieling'. It is difficult to translate this word into another language but it literally means 'to give a soul to something.' AFFLATUS Whenever the word is used in relation to a work of art it often describes an imaginative power that communicates on a spiritual and emotional level. It means the viewer is touched by something that transcends the material of which the artwork has been made. For an artist it is a challenge to reach this level of concentration, because it demands great dedication to be able to bring the material to life. AFFLATUS will focus on this process of making; to look with your eyes and with your soul and to work with your intuition as a source of creation.
Molding passivity
Mia Maljojoki & Pau Faus
29.10.-1.11.2012, Price: 500 euros
Today's constant increase of hyperactivity is causing more and more a social interpassivity. In this workshop, we will reflect on this fact by exploring our body and discussing our relationship and struggle with passivity. We will ask the participants to identify parts of their own body linked to a passive attitude they feel uncomfortable with. This will beused as a physical and emotional point of departure, from which we will work to transformthese feelings into materials, forms and actions. We expect these "molded emotions" to work as a bridge between the inside and the outside of our mannequins passive bodies. This workshop is intended to cross the divided between object making and performance art, to create in integrated artistic presentation.
S-T-O-N-E
Nelli Tanner & Tarja Tuupanen
29.10.-1.11.2012, Price: 500 euros
S-T-O-N-E is an experimantal workshop with contemporary jewellery and stone.. During the workshop you will find yourself in middle of questions like What is stone? What is the concept of stone? How far stone is still a stone? Experimenting from rock to dust you get a taste of stone. There is a possibility to work with our special stone machi- nes of Saimaa University of Applied Sciences.
To apply to a workshop you have to fill an on-line application. To each workshop will be selected 12-16 participants.
Deadline for application has passed.

We were called before South Carelia Polytechnic and Jewellery was under Arts and Crafts department. Now the official name is Saimaa University of Applied Sciences. One even bigger change is that we have totally new space in Imatra,in an other town 30 kilometres more north from Lappeenranta. The new department is now under Fine Arts.
