| Statement | I design and create jewellery that is recognisable as such even when not worn on the body. It stands as a piece of jewellery in its own right, without having to serve a funktion. Be it an artistic microcosm, a fashion accessory, an ornate one-of-a-kind or whatever, it should remain jewellery and not be construed merely as a pice of art.
The guiding principle behind all my works is a schematic formula -3F- It derives from the German words : Funktion-Form-Farbe. The formula In English would have to read-FFC-: Function-Form-Colour. Put in more precise terms , my work attempts to strike a balance between newly developed forms, functionality and treatment of colour.
In terms of content, form thus derives from function, in an aesthetic blend of the functional and the formal, ultimately emerging as a new piece of jewellery.
I use the same approach in my jewellery. I strive for clarity of form with constructive elements that are quite transparent and so enable the wearer or viewer to see and ultimately understand the inner structure and the manner in which the piece has been put together.
In transparent structures, such as the ones I use in my jewellery, light and shade also come into play. Depending on the brightness, the light and shade create a further imaginary construction. This intensifies the structural plasticity of the piece: a feature that can be considered static kinetics of some kind
My work reflects an overall view of the world around us. I like to know how things work, what makes them tick and what they mean. When I see something, I have to be able to follow the thought behind it and understand. I try to look at things from all sides – if possible, both from within and without, in order to see how they are constructed, how they function and how they are put together. None the less, most world events baffle me - and I suspect the overwhelming majority of other people as well.
For all that and as far as my designs and their formal translation are concerned, I strive for clarity, transparency and comprehensibility. Perhaps not apparent at first sight, they can be ultimately understood – very much in keeping,
with Pound’s claim that: ”only objectivised emotions survive”.
