Statement

I attempt to draw myself.
At first I draw my head,
curve after curve, a circle.
A line, my troat.
I reach the lungs,
a sketch of leaves in the Autumn.
My trunk is thin and long, two lines - parallel.
At last I reach the base,
I trace a road of lines,
intricate patterns forming my ground.
Finishing my drawing
before my eyes
I comtemplate
the tree I am

Leonor Hipólito
In-corporation, 2006

Since my earliest works it has been a constant to study the human body. I always find myself dissecting it hoping to obtain answers to my questions, certain I’ll discover in its immense complexity various forms, systems, relations, that with endless fascination I’ll collect and connect to trace a personal statment.
If it is a fact that I’ve always questioned the role of man in society and within the surrounding enviroment than In-corporation is the culmination of all that reflection.
Focused on the relation between Man and Nature the series results from the crossing of their assemblages, of their relationship, of their dependency. In-corporation is a statement of their union and equality, a nullification of Man’s supremacy.
Each piece that reminds a tool or prosthesis forms a body-nature link, a metaphorical bridge of their inseparablility. As a conjunct they reinforce the idea of incorporation, sometimes alluding to parts of the human body, another times more to plants.
