| Statement | About the Redlight Collection:
During one year I had the opportunity to install a temporary workshop in a formal brothel in the Red-light-district of Amsterdam. I was one of the six Jewellery designers, selected by Droog Design and Gallery Ra, who where part of the RedlightDesign Amsterdam project, situated around the Oude Kerk (OldChurch). During this new and exciting working period I created different rings, inspired by my surroundings of this neighbourhood. This part of the City is one of the oldest. Prostitution around a church is a very strange combination, jewellers in brothels too. It turnedout to be very inspiring to me. I presented the work behind the window in a showcase. Accidental passenger, tourists, but also contemporary jewellery lovers passed by. Sometimes I had to explain to men what I was doing here, they where confused about the content of the window.
Susanne Klemm 2009
About the Frozen Collection:
The immortality of nature or
Art creates memories of nature
Susanne Klemm regards nature as her inexhaustible source of inspiration and is moved to intervene in the endless rhythm of growth and decay to add a touch of immortality to the happenings.
The demiurge captures these moments using a fine plastic covering around objects such as fruit, twigs and flowers, freezing them in time and – paradoxically – thus bringing nature to full bloom. Susanne Klemm makes evanescence visible...
Where does nature end – where does art begin? Or is the relationship the other way round?
Silvia Hugi 2008
About the Seasons collection:
at my feet
when did you get here?
Snail
Issa (1763 – 1827)
Like in a haiku, Japanese poetry of the 17th century, I express symbols of seasons, human affairs and flowers.
They are a personal experience of moments in a simplified and minimalist shape, a thimble of emotions and tribute to the beauty of nature.
Susanne Klemm, January 2007
About the Tango collection:
The rings of Susanne Klemm are comments on the role of the ring as a gift and a symbol. The intimate ritual of giving a ring as an expression of friendship, love and fidelity, is redefined and sometimes put into perspective. By choosing concepts, forms and materials which are relate to our present time and by focusing on how relations are experienced today, her rings are powerful, evocative and topical. Who would not like to give or get such a ring. As he or she in themselves, they are amusing, bold, sensual and bloody beautiful.
